Saturday July 2nd the girls headed up to Cocolalla with mom and Dallin/Cassie. Since Darran was "home alone" he decided to spend the weekend in the hospital with me! We spent Saturday afternoon playing games, going on wheel chair rides, and watching Star Wars. Saturday night he spent on the comfy pull out chair in my room...and it ended up being for the best since things started to change early Sunday morning!
About 5:15 Sunday morning I woke up to use the bathroom and noticed some blood in the toilet. I called my nurse to let her know. This was a change to our "normal" so she and I decided I would try to sleep a little more but if I felt contractions or anything that I needed to call her again. I laid back down for about an hour but couldn't fall back asleep. I was having pain but it wasn't terrible. Instead of laying there worrying more I finally decided to call her and she hooked me up to the monitor...at this point Darran is fully awake and wondering what's going on! As soon as the monitor was going we could see contraction after contraction...again not my norm. She left to talk with the doctor on call and we tried to wrap our brains around what was going on. When she came back Darran asked her what she thought...her response was "I think you're having a baby today!" The doctor came in a bit later, talked to us, and said let's get this baby here...how about in half an hour!?
Everything started going fast from that point on. They got me all ready, Darran put on his scrubs, and he called mom. She said they would pack the girls up and be on their way! We already knew we were having a c-section and that she was breech so there weren't really any surprises. They wheeled me down to the OR, got everything prepped, Darran came in, and our little girl was born!
Karisa Daryn Moody
4 pounds 14 ounces
18 inches long
born Sunday, July 3rd at 8:00 am
The nurses took her to the NICU shortly after she was born. She was on the CPAP machine for almost the first 24 hours after she was born.
When mom and dad and the girls arrived they were soooo excited to meet Karisa!
I got to go hold her that night after I was a bit more stable. She's so tiny but super strong. During surgery the doctor said that the placenta was starting to pull away and that I had a fist sized blood clot. He said delivering her then was the right thing for us to do. Karisa was born at 32 weeks and 3 days...a few days earlier than Lydia. Pretty early but we could not be more happy with how healthy and strong she already is.
