The other night while Darran was gone and I was getting Eliza ready for bed she asked if she could watch some basketball. She's no stranger to basketball games being on in our house, especially in the month of March, but I thought it was cute she would ask even when Darran wasn't home. She had just gotten out of the bath and I needed to come her hair so I went ahead and found a game to watch. This was our conversation...
Eliza: "Which team do we like mom? The red or the white?"
Me: "Um...I guess you can just choose one. I think daddy likes the red one."
Eliza: "Is Abuo on this team?"
Me: "No, BYU isn't playing tonight."
Eliza: "Is Jimmer on this team."
Me: "No, he plays for the Kings."
(At this point I'm reminding myself she is 3 years old!) She sits and watches for a couple of minutes then decides we need to play a board game. I tell her I'll turn the TV off since we're not watching but she says she wants it on so we can watch while were playing the game. A few minutes later she runs into the kitchen to get a drink and as she's leaving the room says to me..."Mom, tell me if the guy does something and he's a hero ok?" By this time I can't help but crack up! Who is this 3 year old and how has she been so indoctrinated by sports already...especially BYU sports? Oh brother...like I don't know the answer to that!
The next night I was gone and Darran was home with the girls. He asked Eliza if she wanted to watch basketball with him like she did with mom. Her reply was "No thanks Dad. We couldn't find Abuo and Jimmer playing. Let's watch something different." And so they watched Mulan. From princess to sports enthusiast. At least we can say she enjoys a variety of things!
